The leaves are falling and the days are growing shorter. Before long it will be time to put the clocks back and the dark nights and winter days will be truly upon us. How about though, before that happens, having one last fling and throwing a Halloween party to celebrate Autumn and all things ghoulish and ghostly.
Halloween is the perfect excuse to dress up so why not make it a fancy dress party. You can really go to town with witches, ghouls, wizards and ghosts. Here at Girls Party Dresses, we have a wide range of children's Halloween party dresses to choose from whether your little horror wants to be a funky fairy witch or a pumpkin princess. Decide on theme and get the invitations out early to let your friends know what is in store. Either make your own with pumpkin and spiders web designs or there are plenty of companies on the internet which do ready made invites.
Decorate the room with plenty of pumpkins (and don't forget to leave one outside the front door to let your fellow trick or treaters so that you are in for some fun!), cut out spiders, spiders webs and plastic insects. Silly string and crepe streamers makes a good spiders webs that can hang down from doorways and ceilings. Have a spider dangling from the ceiling where the children will walk past and cover chairs, doors and windows with white sheets and organza to create the image of ghosts and finally lower the lighting to make it a real fright night.
For food and drink, why not make a witches punch with plenty of red juice, cranberry mixed with orange looks bloody enough and add some chopped fruit to give it a bit of substance. If you have a cauldron, serve it in that or if not why not hollow out a large pumpkin instead? Traditional party food can be given a Halloween party twist with the use of some gruesome Halloween labels. For example, name party sausages “Giants fingers”, tubs of tomato ketchup could be “Blood dip” and triangle cut sandwiches could be “witches and wizards” hats. For dessert, red strawberry or blood orange jelly served in a hollowed out pumpkin makes a scary centre piece for the table and little scary spider cakes can be made by decorating fairy cakes with black liquorice or coca-cola strings.
Finally for party games, pass the parcel is a must for any children's party and this can be given a Halloween party twist by making the prizes Halloween themed (for example, little spiders). Apple bobbing is a traditional game for the Autumn and there is no reason why you can't do this at a Halloween party. Set up lots of trays with gruesome dips. The first tray with syrup and chocolate, the second with flour and jelly sweets and so on. The final one should be apples in a bowl of water. Each child takes turns to move along the line and dip their faces in to retrieve a treat. Hands must be tied behind backs! Finally give musical bumps or musical statues a Halloween slant by getting the children to dance like ghouls and witches. You could even give a prize for the best ghoul impression!
Finally let your hair down and have a spooky Halloween party to remember!
