Flower Fairy Garden Parties

Published on 05 August 2009

The summer holidays are here and the sun is shining? What better time to host a fairy garden party to keep little angels entertained during the long hot days that are stretching out before them? Plus if you set a party date for the end of the holidays, your fairy will have plenty to occupy them in the run up to the big day!

First on the list is to draw up a guest list with your little angel. Once that has been finalised, the imagination of the hostess with the mostest can run wild in creating some magical fairy invitations that can be given out to all the budding flower fairies to let them know of the delights that are to come.

Once the invites have been set, then the fun really begins! Get your little fairy to make some pretty decorations that can be strung up around the garden on the big day to create that magical fairytale atmosphere. Think fairies in the trees, fairy toadstools to sit on, twinkling stars and dainty tissue flowers. Add some twinkling fairy lights draped through the trees, plenty of tulle and ribbons and fairy wand or two in vases wrapped in ribbons with pink marbles at the bottom and you're sorted!

Create the perfect fairy table by either covering a table with a white tablecloth sprinkled with glitter or make your own fairy ring on the floor by placing cushions around a round red table cloth spread on the grass. The white spots could be made by cutting out circles of paper and stapling or sewing them into place. Food should be kept dainty and pretty.  Make little mouth sized sandwiches with biscuit cutters or fairy bread (white sandwich bread buttered and cut into stars etc and then sprinkled with hundreds and thousands) for the main course. Add the requisite veg… cucumber cut into star shapes, cherry toms etc and some naughty treats such as crisps and you have the perfect fairy feast. As for pudding, it has to be little fairy cakes decorated with little sweets or sprinkles and jelly and icecream!

As for games, all the usual such as pass the parcel are a must but you could also do pin the wings on the fairy and fairy bingo. Plus there has to be lots of dancing as fairies like nothing better than skipping and fluttering their way around the garden.

Finally don't forget the perfect fairy party dress for the fairy host. The Blossom fairy party dress or Rosebud fairy party dress are perfect for a summer party where fairies are playing at the bottom of the garden. Pretty in pink, these gorgeous fairy party dresses come with their own detachable fairy wings. Add a pair of sparkly party shoes and a pretty diamante and feather child's hair fascinator and you have the perfect fairy party outfit that is sure to delight your little one.

According to a survey published by the parenting website Netmums this week, the cost of children’s parties is on the increase. Some parents surveyed said that they end up spending well over £500 celebrating their little angel’s birthday and often that doesn’t even include birthday presents. It seems that pass the parcel, musical bumps, birthday cake and the obligatory party bag with the little plastic toy and packet of sweets in it is just not enough these days for our little darlings.

The sun is shining and spring is officially here with the May holiday. Think of May Day and images of May poles and morris dancers are conjured up along a long bank holiday weekend to relax in the warm, spring sunshine. Of course in good old Blighty, the latter is more likely to be spent sheltering under an umbrella while the skies open around you, but the thought is there! But what is the meaning behind the May Day bank holiday?
