Just think it was only a year ago that the crawling and babbling little bundle of joy whom you adore pieces made her debut into your life and now it's her first birthday! Whether that first year had passed in a haze in sleepless nights and feeds or has been a much more laid back and relaxed affair, baby's first birthday is a milestone that should be marked. And what better way than with a party! After all it celebrates the end of one of the most important years in baby's life as well as marking the moment when she moves into toddlerdom! Read on for our guide to the perfect First Birthday Party for your little girl!
Timing is always crucial with a first birthday party and you want to keep it short and sweet so your little angel doesn't get over tired. About and hour and a half either in the morning after their morning sleep is ideal. Too late in the afternoon and the early evening twilight zone falls when everything is just too much for a little one! Keep the guest list intimate too, just family and maybe a few close friends from the baby group. Again too many people and too much attention is a recipe for tears on the big day!
As for themes, there are plenty of first birthday themed party kits out there on the market or you could choose their favourite cuddly toy as inspiration. Winnie the Pooh is always popular for girls. Or you could do your own thing and make it all about her with pictures of your little girl dotted around the party venue. Simplicity is the key and you don't have to go overboard with party games. Pass the parcel doesn't really click at this age unless it's the wrapping paper of course! A few baby toys dotted around the room are more than sufficient to keep little hands occupied. In fact be thankful, as it won't be long before you are getting into the big kid's parties with all the trimmings! If you have some older children attending you may want to put a couple of party games for them to keep them entertained.
Food should be keep mouth sized and suitable for little fingers. Little squares of sandwich, strips of cheese, carrot and cucumber sticks, bread sticks, little pieces of chopped fruit that are soft enough for little gums to chew are perfect. A few finger biscuits and little fairy cakes and you're sorted. (If you're feeling like a domestic goddess, you can get little cake paper cases that are about the size of a chocolate from most supermarkets. Fill these with fairy cake mix, cook and you have the perfect one-year-old sized fairy cake!)
Finally there's the party outfit for your little one. Something special is the name of the day and here at Girls Party Dresses, we have just thing. The Rosie Party Dress and the Olivia Party Dress are both utterly adorable with their layers of satin organza hand trimmed with tiny organza roses and butterflies respectively. Both of these come in baby sizes 6-12mths complete with matching knickers. Or if your little angel is slightly bigger the Tallulah Party Dress (with and without sash) and Victoria Ivory Lace Party Dress come in sizes 12-18mths and above. Both of these are truly gorgeous with their layers of soft tulle (Tallulah party dress) and exquisite lace (the Victoria party dress). Complete the party outfit with a pair of dainty satin baby party shoes or if the birthday girl has found her feet, a pair of patent or hand-trimmed satin toddler party shoes and your little one will be belle of the ball on her first birthday. Just one hint though, don't get her dressed until the last minute or that belle of ball will be covered in sticky handprints before she greets her guests!
