Christmas Ballet Dresses
A popular alternative to a Christmas pantomime, a trip to the ballet is a perfect Christmas treat for a girl of any age. The seasonal favourite, and most widely performed ballet in the world, is The Nutcracker, a ballet which captures the imagination of even the youngest child. The ballet is based on E.T.A. Hoffman's story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” and Peter Tchaikovsky was commissioned to compose the music in 1891. The story begins at a grand Christmas Eve party where Uncle Drosselmeyer hands out toys to the children. Clara was given a wooden doll made from a nutcracker and in a vivid dream the Nutcracker comes alive along with the other toys and a great adventure ensues. In Clara's dream, the Nutcracker is transformed into a human Prince who then whisks her away to his Palace, meeting the Snow Queen and her dancing snowflakes and the Sugar Plum Fairy along the journey.
The Nutcracker is a magical ballet which brings out the dancer in any little girl. Inspired to be ballerinas, girls love playing out their dreams so why not help them stage their own Nutcracker ballet production with their friends in the comfort of your own living room. All that's needed is some ballet music and a little imagination. Tracks from The Nutcracker can be downloaded for free from the Internet - don't forget to include the famous Sugar Plum Fairy dance. Give the girls some dressing up clothes and some dancing shoes and they will be content to practice for hours ready for the performance. For added fun, ask the girls to make tickets for the show and a poster to put on the door. When they're ready, just sit and enjoy their big performance. You may be asked to be Narrator, Lighting and Music Director!
